As the country prepares for the general election next year, Muslim clergy across the country have voiced concerns over the divisive manner in which political campaigns are being done adding that they will advise their members on the direction to take.

Fifteen upcountry Muslim associations who had gathered at Masjid Noor Jamia mosque to celebrate the birth of Prophet Mohamed said most of the politicians were trading insults instead of selling their policies.

Led by Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the clergy said they will make sure that they give guidance on who to elect.

They said they will not be influenced by anything but they will vet the ethics and integrity of every single politician.

They have added that some politicians have been bribing religious leaders so as to be endorsed.

This comes as presidential candidates today paid a visit to various religious centers to drum up their campaigns as the country prepares for the general election.
