The National Police Service (NPS) has denounced a purported 'stay alert' notice circulating across social media, drawing the attention of the public to the threat of potential terrorist attacks.

The notice that is allegedly linked to Jubilee Insurance claims there are some targeted areas in the cities of Nairobi and Mombasa.

“NPS has taken note of a "Stay Alert" 'intelligence' notice in circulation notifying the public of "an ongoing high threat of terrorist attacks". The said notice is allegedly associated to Jubilee Insurance and identifies some targeted areas around Nairobi and Mombasa,” said NPS.

NPS says the information is far from being true and is aimed at causing unnecessary fear and despondency.

“This information is inaccurate, unofficial and aimed at causing fear and unnecessary despondency,” said NPS

NPS assured Kenyans of their safety and asserted that the security situation within Kenya was calm. They urged the public to pay no attention to the advisory.

“Security situation within the country remains calm with safety of the public guaranteed. The public is advised to ignore the advisory,” NPS said.

The fake security alert identifies Kibera slums, Eastleigh, hotels, clubs, Foreign Embassies and tourist resorts and potential targets of the attack.
