A landlady in Mumias, Kakamega County, torched her house with her tenant's belongings inside.

The incident happened on Thursday following a dispute between herself and her tenant over Sh400.

Sources say the landlady identified as Caroline Mulokwe went to the tenant’s house to demand the Sh800 rent.

Unfortunately, her 40-year-old tenant, Teresia Ayeng only raised half the amount Mulokwe wanted. She offered the Sh400 with a promise to remit the balance in a few days’ time.

However, the impatient landlady was not amused at the developments and paid no attention to her tenant’s pleas for more time to raise the balance.

She walked out of the house only to come back running with a bottle of kerosene and a matchbox in her hands.

Mulokwe stormed into Ayeng’s house and doused her bedding, clothing and anything she could set her eyes on in kerosene then set the items ablaze.

Ayeng’ watched helplessly in tears as the raging fire razed down her house, reducing her possession to ashes.

Meanwhile, her landlady, Mulokwe was beside herself with pride as she paced up and down with her head up high from her latest achievement.

Witnesses privy to the incident said Ayeng could not fathom the crisis that had befallen her through the hands of her landlord. She lost all her property valued at Sh47,000 in the inferno.

The matter was reported to the police in Mumias who went and arrested Mulokwe. She will be arraigned in court to answer to her heinous crimes.
