Cabinet Secretary of Education Prof.George Magoha has reaffirmed that government will not take responsibility for rebuilding dormitories that were burned by students.

His statement comes after the ministry issued a directive to all regional and County Directors of Education to ensure that students proceed on half-term break starting on November 19, 2021, and return to school on November 23, 2021.

Magoha's sentiments come barely days after a series of fire incidents were witnessed in various schools.

Some of the schools that were burnt down by students include  Kabarak High School, Gendia Secondary School, Kanjuri High School in Nyeri, Buruburu Girls, Sigalame Boys High School, among others.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (KUPPET) urged the ministry to adjust the academic calendar so as to reduce stress among students and teachers which has led to unrest in many schools.

Nyeri KUPPET Executive Secretary Francis Wanjohi said the current academic calendar is congested hence causing mental stress to students.
