Nurses have demanded an apology from Health CS Mutahi Kagwe over his remarks that majority of them failed English language tests required for UK jobs.
The medical workers claim that CS Mutahi's statement could lower their confidence and expose them to public mockery as they seek greener pastures.
The Nursing Council of Kenya says it is working on a style in preparing nurses and midwives who wish to sit the tests to improve the success rate.
"Following the call for applications, the National Employment Authority received and submitted 3,329 applications from interested persons to the Nursing Council of Kenya for verification and short-listing of candidates, based on the evaluation criteria, 2,685 candidates were shortlisted and required to submit additional requirements,'' it read.
The test was offered to Kenyan nurses and other health workers as part of conditions to work in the UK as part of a new scheme requested by Kenya.
