Students at Kanjuri high school in Mathira sub-county, Nyeri county have burned one of the dormitories demanding a mid-term break.

The incident that occurred on Friday morning resulted in the destruction of property whose value is yet to be known.

Confirming the incident, Mathira East police boss James Baraza said the fire was started by a section of students who remained in the dormitory while others went for their morning remedial.

“Students were in their preps when the fire was discovered. More than fifteen beds and other properties had been burnt when the fire was put out but we are assessing the extent of the damage,” said Baraza.

Baraza said the incident was a result of distressed students who wanted to proceed with their mid-term break.

The incident at Kanjuri comes days after a neighboring school Karimira High school was closed indefinitely after students went on strike after the management refused to give them the opportunity to watch the Man United- Liverpool game.
