Deputy President William Ruto has promised Mtito Andei sex workers Sh1 million to fund their start-up businesses.

The DP who was speaking to the public at Mtito Andei on Monday asked the sex workers to organise themselves into financial groups before he can offer his Sh1 million to help them start legitimate businesses.

His promise follows a request by the sex workers to him to empower them with the funds so that they can switch to more respectful ventures.

Ruto also promised to keep tabs on the money he will give to the sex workers to ensure they thrive in their new chosen career paths.

The DP was in Mtito Andei to popularise his bottom-up economic model, which he said will resonate with common mwananchi and is also intent on improving the lives of low-income earners in the country.

He said the bottom-up economic model will empower small entrepreneurs, farmers and SME’s.
