M-Pesa Foundation has officially partnered with CBM Kenya and Cure Kenya hospital to convey issues affecting children with disabilities from remote areas and schools.

The partnership of Sh74 million under the "Wezesha Elimu" project will see children with special needs undergoing surgeries, rehabilitation, and getting the opportunity in learning institutions.

A total of 27 mobile clinics will be held across the country targeting more than 700 children and 300 surgeries.

Five schools will see their infrastructures being modernized to enable children with disabilities to access learning while over 100 will be distributed.

“ We aim to increase the enrolment and retention of children with disabilities in learning institutions and reduce the physical barriers which drive away learners from attending classes by revamping infrastructure in select schools. we also want to create awareness about living with disabilities so that the children with disabilities can access education without discrimination,” said Les Baillie.

M-Pesa Foundation with CBM Kenya has each invested Sh22.5 million while CURE Kenya will contribute Sh26.5 million towards the project.

Joseph Okello, Chairman CBM Kenya has said the partnership will help to conduct awareness and sensitize Kenyans about the rights of children with disabilities.

“This partnership will help us raise awareness and sensitize Kenyans about the rights of children with disabilities especially when it comes to access to education," said Okelo.

Since its establishment in 2016, Wezesha Elimu has worked with Safaricom Corporate Social Investment arm, Safaricom Foundation to at least reach 30,000 people nationwide.

This includes children with disabilities and the general public who have been educated on disability rights awareness and inclusive education.
