The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deregistered 43 teachers over different professional offences.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia announced the removal of their names from the Register of Teachers was announced in a Kenya Gazette notice dated October 22, 2021.

“In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, the Commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the Schedule herein below have been removed from the Register of Teachers,” the notice read.

In the same breath, the CEO warned any heads of any schools not to hire the teachers whose names they have expunged from the TSC rota and threatened dire consequences should anyone violate the order.

“It is against the law to employ in any school a person not being a registered teacher and the school heads found doing that shall be liable to a fine of not less than Sh100,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both,” the notice continued.

The teachers stand no chance of reinstatement unless by the direction of the TSC.

This is according to TSC Act section 30 (4) and (5) and section 23, which says a teacher removed from the register shall not be reinstated except by the direction of the Commission.

According to the same Act, the persons affected cease to be teachers immediately from the date of their removal.

They therefore may not perform any teaching duties unless reinstated by the commission.
