The National Police Service (NPS) has distanced itself from a fake tweet that circulated on Wednesday in which the police spokesperson Bruno Isohi Shioso supposedly commented on President Uhuru Kenyatta's order lifting the dusk to dawn curfew.

NPS has said the police spokesperson has not made any claims on the presidential curfew lifting clarifying that the ban on bars remains in place.

"Our attention has been drawn to a fake tweet circulating attributed to the @NPSOfficial_KE spokesperson commenting on the Presidential Order lifting COVID-19 curfew that has been in place. The tweet alleges the spokesperson clarified that the ban on bars remains in place," NPS tweeted.

This came after Uhuru announced the immediate lifting of the dusk to dawn curfew on Mashujaa Day.

The alleged tweet said that even though the curfew was lifted, bars and clubs are still banned from operating past 7 pm until further notice.

"Yes the curfew was lifted the president didn't say clubs could operate past 7 pm. That ban still remains in effect until directed otherwise," read the fake tweet.

According to the same tweet, the police spokesperson also claimed nobody was brutalized and those arrested in bars saw it coming.

NPS has asked members of the public to disregard what they termed as erroneous, malicious and misleading information intended to achieve ulterior motives.

"The police spokesperson has not made any comment on the Presidential Curfew lifting. Please dirsregrad the erroneous, malicious and misleading information intended to achieve ulterior motives," NPS asserted.
