Green card Mtaani and MasterCard Foundation have launched a partnership to create an awareness and resilience program that is aimed at providing hand wash in schools, water boreholes, sanitary towels and economic recovery programs in Kibera and parts of Langata.

Speaking during the launch, Fredrick Juma who is a director and team leader at Green card Mtaani said the partnership intends to train youth on various skills and give them start-up stipends to begin their business where they can generate their daily income.

Juma added they will literary go door to door, household to household, person to person to deliver more than health information.

"We are going to provide a hand wash program in school. We are also going to provide sanitary towels, water boreholes, and an economic recovery program," said Juma.

He said the program will also encourage youth in sports and art to build up leadership through mentorship training, soccer programs and advocacy campaigns that promote peace, health and talent for a better community.

Juma alluded that the partnership targets to reach at least 750,000 thousand people within Kibera and its environment.

“As a project targeting to meet at least 750,000 people within Kibera and its environment, indirectly we are meeting 250,000 through media awareness and talk shows,” said Juma.

He added that the partnership will also see the needy and marginalized groups in Kibera getting access to quality education and promoting health services by identifying and connecting them to a readily available source and beyond.

The program will also use sports to fight drugs and crime, promote behaviour change, and offer HIV/AIDS training.
