Two people have lost their lives after a gold mining collapsed, burying them at Onyatta ‘C’ Village in Bondo sub-County.

According to witnesses, the deceased, John Peter Obilo and his colleague, who has since been identified as Kibaki were killed when the mining shaft caved in on Wednesday evening.

Confirming the incident, Bondo Deputy Commissioner Richard Karani said, they received information that the two people were trapped in the mine. When they rushing to the scene, they found rescue activities going on.

The bodies of the two have been retrieved and moved to Bond sub-county hospital mortuary.

Speaking with a local radio station, Mr Karani said the mine was illegitimate and the two were operating without permission

He has therefore appealed to relevant authorities to ensure that all miners in the sub-county are licensed and safety measures put in place.
