The World 10,000 meters bronze medalist Agnes Tirop is dead, Athletics Kenya (AK) has confirmed.

Tirop was found dead on Wednesday in her house in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The 2015 World Cross Country champion’s body was found with stab wounds, with AK saying her husband is suspected to be behind her stabbing to death.

The top athlete was among those who represented Kenya in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics.

She represented Kenya in the 5,000 meters women’s race and emerged fourth in the finals after clocking 14:36:62.

In 2019, Tirop was the year’s World 5,000 meters bronze medalist.

She was also the winner 2015 senior World Cross Country title.

Tirop also broke the women-only record in the women’s 10 kilometers at Road to Records Race in Germany and just last week, she finished an impressive second at the Valencia Half Marathon.
