ODM leader Raila Odinga is expected to visit Meru County at the end of this month to consolidate votes from the region ahead of the year’s general election.

The national Assembly Chief Whip and the current Igembe North MP Maore Maoka has said Raila will make his tour to the Miraa growing zone and vote-rich area of the Igembe region.

Maoka was speaking after presiding over a security meeting that intends to bring together boda boda operators at the weekend, adding that “Baba” as commonly known by his followers has a huge number in the area.

His tour in Meru county comes barely after weeks when the area leaders hosted him in Nairobi hotel in a function presided by the Mount Kenya Foundation chaired by Titus Ibui.

“We intend to bring here at the end of the month. He has so many fans around the region,” Said Maore

Maoka added that they supported the handshake between President Kenyatta and Raila and they have seen the dividends it has brought to the nation.

Gitonga Ndolo who leads a lobby group by the name “Baba Bila Condition” (BBC) in Igembe has said that Raila has many supporters in the region.

“Raila is now the most decorated and hyped president in waiting in this area of Igembe,” said Ndolo

He has therefore pleaded with Meru leaders to follow the example of their counterparts in other regions who are supporting the handshake and the ODM leader's presidential bid.

ODM Meru branch Chairman Jacob Munoru has said the ongoing grassroots engagements are meant to change the negative perception that the region is anti- Raila.
