Police in Nyamira have launched an investigation into a tragic incident in which a man is reported to have brutally killed his wife then committed suicide over alleged infidelity.

Residents of Nyabomite village in West Mugirango Constituency were left in shock on learning that George Asiba had reportedly killed his wife Mary Asiba on Tuesday night.

George is reported to left behind a note indicating that he had opted to take the drastic decision after finding out that his wife had allegedly been cheating on him for some time.

The evangelist, in his alleged suicide note, said his wife had allegedly been engaging in a clandestine affair with a politician in the area who is said to be seeking a ward seat in the 2022 election.

Police say the two-page long note had been written in Ekegusii and was found in their matrimonial house which was in a mess indicating that there was a fight before the deaths.

Witnesses say Mary’s body was found lying on a bed with blood oozing from her mouth and nose while her husband’s was found dangling from the rafters of the two bedroomed house.

“I have known George and Mary for the longest time. The two have never shown any signs of misunderstanding in their marriage before and I’m in utter shock that they had to end their lives in this ugly manner,” said area chief Peter Ndirangu.

He urged couples to seek counselling when facing difficult times in their marriage.

He added, “We have seen what we believe is a suicide note written by the husband and police are going to establish whether it originated from him. People should come out and get counselling to avoid such incidents.”

The bodies of the couple have been moved to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary.
