Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i will chair a crisis meeting with stakeholders in the energy sector to discuss the current fuel price crisis in the country this week.

The high cost of electricity will also be discussed in the meeting following a report presented to the president last week by a task force on Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) that proposed overhaul of the company and review of Power Purchase Agreements.

Challenges facing the energy sector will also be discussed as the stakeholder develop a roadmap to reduce the prices of energy products that have recently skyrocketed.

Matiang’i hinted at radical changes in troubled KPLC last Sunday during a funds drive to construct the Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) Church South Nairobi-Kajiado branch headquarters.

He also said he would ensure the recommendations of the task force are implemented.

The CS’ assertions come shortly after ODM leader Raila Odinga also hinted that the government would reduce the cost of fuel this week while he was addressing a rally in Bungoma.
