Police have arrested a Ugandan suspected to have thrown a 25-year-old Kenyan woman off a balcony to her death at Sunny Side apartment in Nyali, Mombasa County on Monday.

Suleiman Mayanja, who is reported to have entered the country last month through the Busia border point, was nabbed by DCI detectives while hiding at the Nyali Cinemax.

Police say he had sent a runner to collect his belongings from the room which he had booked on September 30, when a contingent of detectives pounced on him and put him in custody.

The runner, a cab driver, did not know that undercover police officers had been laying an ambush in the said apartment and they pounced on him immediately he arrived at the room.

The Ugandan was then questioned and he immediately led police officers from Nyali to the suspect, who detectives established had arrived in the country from Uganda on September 1.

Police say the suspect met the deceased woman for the first time a day earlier at a popular club, where they made merry and had a few drinks before she joined him again on Monday.

It is during their second meeting on Monday night that the woman joined Mayanja in the rented house and it is unclear what transpired before she met her death at around 3am.

The man is reported to have thrown the woman off the bedroom balcony sending her crashing down to her death before he fled the scene with police hot on his heels.

The apartment guard, Parsaoti Ole Morinket, found her half-dressed body on the ground after he heard screams of distress minutes earlier coming from the apartment’s room A10.

Detectives are questioning the suspect over the incident before he is arraigned in Mombasa.
