Kitui County has launched a medical insurance cover in partnership with the National Health Fund (NHIF).

The medical insurance cover will be available to all Kitui County Residents.

Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu announced the launch of the cover through her Twitter account.

She said Kitui residents will only be required to pay Sh3,000 while the County Government of Kitui will top up another Sh3,000 for each family.

The move is meant to move the county closer to achieving Universal Health Cover.

This comes only days after the government rolled out health cover for all Kenyans in new reforms that require all Kenyans from 18 years and above in both formal and informal sectors to contribute to the NHIF.

Every household will contribute a mandatory Sh6,000 annually or Sh500 monthly.
