Kenya has joined other countries in Celebrating the World tourism day when the industry is yet to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which emerged on March 13, 2020.

This year’s celebration is under the Theme Tourism for Inclusive Growth.

The sub-sector was one of the most affected due to travel restrictions and containment measures set across by most countries, thus inhibiting the daily operations of the business in the hospitality and aviation sector.

Through a statement shared by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, noted the role played by the sector in the lives of people.

"Tourism is about lives and livelihood, wherever you go, the experience, the people and the destination become part of you," said Balala.

In early September, the CS said the sector will return to normalcy in two years.

Tourism is one of the leading income sectors in the country and employs a majority of people.

In 2020, it contributed 5.5% of the global GDP and here in Kenya; the sector contributes almost 4.4% of the GDP.
