The former Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hassan Wario has been fined Sh3.6 million or serve a six-year jail term.

Wario was sentenced after Anti-corruption magistrate Elizabeth Juma found him guilty of abuse of office.

The former CS was charged with 4 counts, the first being engaging in a project without prior planning and three other counts of abuse of office.

He was accused alongside other persons who were acquitted of the charge due to lack of sufficient evidence.

Wario was, however, acquitted of the charge of engaging in a project without planning for the Rio Olympics.

The other person who was convicted and found guilty of graft was Team Kenya’s Head of Delegation in the 2016 Rio Olympics Stephen Soi.

Soi has been sentenced to serve a 12-year jail term or pay a fine of Sh105.6 million after being convicted of graft
