The Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has summoned the Energy CS Charles Keter and Petroleum and Mining CS John Munyes over the hike of fuel prices.

The two Cabinet Secretaries were summoned to appear before the house on Tuesday, the following week.

This follows the upwards review of the fuel prices by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority on Tuesday.

A cross-section of leaders has criticized the government for hiking the cost of fuel at a time Kenyans are struggling with financial strife caused by the economic downtime and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Members of the public are also outraged by the constantly rising cost of living as they are struggling even to afford basic needs.

The matatu operators resolved to transfer the extra burden to commuters by hiking fares in reaction to the increased cost of fuel.

The increment saw Super Petrol retail at Sh134.72, Diesel will retail at Sh115.60 and Kerosene will retail at 110.82 in Nairobi.

EPRA cited higher costs of landing petroleum products as their cause for increasing the fuel pump prices.

The Senate had previously summoned Munyes in June to explain the rising fuel prices, but he never honoured the summon.
