Senator Mithika Linturi has been charged with attempted rape.

The Meru Senator appeared at Milimani Law Courts before Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi on Tuesday.

Linturi was charged with attempting to rape a 36-year-old woman at Maiyan Villas Hotel in Nanyuki on January 30, 2021. 

The senator also faced a second charge of committing an indecent act with an adult contrary to section 11 (A) of the Sexual Offences Act.

He was accused of indecently touching the woman without her consent.

Linturi was released on a Sh200,000 cash bail or a Sh500,000 bond after pleading not guilty of both charges and pleading for lenient bond terms.

His case will be mentioned on October 26, 2021.
