Learning has resumed in schools within Ol Moran, Laikipia County after calm returned to the region amid tight security.

The Interior CS Fred Matiang’i visited the Laikipia over the weekend and ordered schools to resume as he pledged tight security.

The region has been marred with skirmishes following banditry attacks that saw hundreds displaced, livestock stolen and lives lost.

Heavily armed security officers have intensified patrols in the region where just a few days ago was turned into a battlefront between the bandits and National Police officers.

One school, Merigwiti Primary School, that was torched by the bandits was also reopened although with a lesser population of pupils.

Relief food distribution to the locals that were affected by the unrest also resumed with the hope to resettle the affected.

Renovation of the classrooms that were destroyed by fire is underway to ensure learning fully resumes in the region.

The security teams visited the schools that were adversely affected by the skirmishes, including Merigwiti Primary School and Ol Moran Secondary School.
