Health workers in Mombasa County have downed their tools following two months of unpaid salaries.

Led by Peter Maroko, the Kenya Union of Nurses Mombasa Secretary-General and Franklin Makanga of the Kenya Union of Clinical Workers, they marched to the Mombasa County Governor’s office in protest.

The irate health worker who pitched camp at Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s office swore to resume their duties only after their concerns were addressed and salaries fully paid.

The health workers had issued a strike notice of Friday to their employer; the county government of Mombasa if their grievances were not addressed 

They claimed to be suffering because of the delayed salaries amid the economic downtime occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

They advised the Mombasa residents to seek medical services from private health institutions as they would not be at work

Mombasa County Health officials are yet to address the striking health workers.
