A man who brandished a toy pistol and attacked a security guard in an attempt to access a club in Kajiado, is recuperating in hospital after the guards beat him up leaving him in a critical condition.

Joshua Kalama, aged 29, made the attempt to gain entry into the Square Bar in Kajiado town on Sunday morning after the security guard barred him at the entrance.

An irate Joshua reached for what appeared to be a pistol holstered on his waist and pointed it at a stunned but well-built security guard, Cleophas Otieno, ordering him out of his way.

However, the ‘pistol’ failed to fire prompting the guard to swiftly pin Kalama down as he raised alarm attracting a dozen other guards, who were manning different establishments in the town.

They descended on the disarmed man with kicks, blows and other projectiles available at the scene leaving him with serious injuries.

It took the intervention of police officers based in Kajiado to save Kalama’s life with the police later establishing that the said firearm was a plastic toy pistol.

He is expected to be arraigned in Kajiado on Monday to face charges of attempted robbery with violence in violation of section 295 as read with 297 (2) of the Penal Code.
