The traffic started building up from Thursday morning till now.

Travellers have taken to social media to vent their frustrations.

Some of them have made recommendations to the contractor and asked him to create alternative roads for motorists to use during the construction process of the expressway.

This is happening in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that has prompted the government to impose containment protocols that include imposing a nationwide curfew.

The heavy traffic jam is being caused by the ongoing construction of the expressway.

Sections of the road have either been closed or narrowed to pave way for the construction work.

Most of the people affected by the gridlock are those who work in Nairobi City but stay in Machakos, Athi River and Kitengela.

Being tired from their daily duties, some motorists have resorted to parking their cars by the roadside and sleeping.
