The Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka can now breathe a sigh of relief following the withdrawal of the unborn child support lawsuit against him.

A woman had sued Lusaka for Sh25 million over the support of their unborn child.

The woman revealed that her steamy relationship that resulted in her pregnancy came to a screeching halt the moment she disclosed they were expecting a baby.

She claimed that Lusaka refused to fulfil his obligation to support her and their unborn child by providing for their necessities.

Lusaka, through his lawyer Peter Wanyama told the court that he was willing to pay for the woman’s prenatal expenses as he did not challenge the paternity of the child.

The Senate Speaker engaged the woman in talks with the intention of having an out-of-court settlement of the matter.

Upon extensive consultations and mutual decision, the parties agreed to settle the matter out of court.

The woman through her lawyer Danstan Omari said she will not pursue the case she filed in court any further. She filed a notice of withdrawal on Friday.

"Take notice that the applicant has wholly withdrawn the entire suit dated June 15,  2021, together with all attendance applications," the withdrawal statement read.

However, the lawyer did not reveal the nature of the agreement that was arrived at between Lusaka and the woman.

The woman, through her lawyer also applied for gag orders against any print or electronic media from accessing, publishing, airing, narrating or commenting in writing or debating the case she filed against the speaker.

The court issued the gag orders, however, the Kenya Union of Journalists secured orders lifting the gag orders issued earlier on the same Friday as the woman withdrew the suit.
