The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has issued orders for investigation of the role of two police bosses over the deaths of the Kianjokoma brothers.

Haji wrote a letter to the Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai wanting investigation of former Embu North OCPD Emily Ngaruiya and Manyatta Police Station OCS Abdullahi Yaya.

The DPP has also recommended the suspension of the two officers from duty pending the outcome of investigations.

"Additionally, I direct that further investigations be carried out into the role of the OCPD and OCS. Pending the same, I recommend that they be suspended from duty,” Haji’s letter read.

The two senior police officers were transferred to other regions following the death of the brothers.

Six police officers implicated in the deaths of the brothers Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura were arraigned in Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday and were detained for 14 days to allow for investigations.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is investigating the possibility of their personal culpability in the incident.

According to Ibrahim Shunu, the case investigating officer, data retrieved from the brothers’ and other witnesses’ mobile phones is critical in the conclusion of the ongoing investigations.

In an affidavit tabled in court by Shunu, he said the communication devices which are in possession of the six officers should be obtained to prevent evidence tampering.

"It will be essential to the progression of investigations that the communication devices which are in possession of the respondents are obtained to prevent the interference of critical evidence," the document read.

Shuni also said that releasing the six suspect cops would have been risky to themselves and other officers due to the heightened tension within the community towards them.

Investigations revealed the two brothers were never booked in any police station after being arrested after which their bodies were discovered more than 6.5 kilometres away from their point of arrest.

It is now apparent that their bodies were collected from the scene where they were discovered by the same officers who are being suspected of killing them.

The officers reported them as road accident victims in the police Occurrence Book (OB) at the Embu Police Station and later moved them to Embu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary.

The death of the Kianjokoma brothers has caused public uproar and pressure has been mounting on the government to expedite the investigations into their death and bring the culprits to book.
