Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has ordered the arrest of the 6 police officers who were implicated in the deaths of the two brothers, Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura.

The DPP issued a statement on Monday directing the Inspector General (IG) of police Hilary Mutyambai to arrest and arraign the officers in court to avert the possibility of evidence tampering and witness intimidation.

“Based on the preliminary Investigation Report forwarded by the Inspector General (IG), I am shortly directing the IG to immediately arrest and arraign in court, in Nairobi, all officers involved pending investigations by the IPOA to avoid any interference with evidence and or intimidation of witnesses,” read the statement.

Haji said through his office he was expecting to receive the feedback from the investigations by Monday close of business.

"For that reason, and keeping in view of the urgency of this matter, we expect to receive the results of all investigation into this matter no later than close of business today, 16th August, 2021. WE have their commitment to do so," the statement continued.

The DPP’s directive comes as pressure is mounting on the government to bring the culpable individuals to book.

A report by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) established a case based on the first impression against the officers for the murder.

IPOA further suggested that the 6 officers be immediately relieved of their duties as they await the outcome of an independent review of the findings which will be presented to the DPP.

The officers were also asked to surrender any government property in their possession, and that includes their firearms.

They are also required to be available around the clock.

The National Police Service (NPS) and Internal Affairs also launched their parallel investigation into the case.

The DPP intimated that the IG has already forwarded the preliminary findings to the ODPP and they are under review and scrutiny.
