The Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has been arrested.

Barasa was arrested on Monday morning following a scuffle that ensued between him and a contractor at Baptist Lurare Primary School in his constituency.

The MP was arrested at his Kimilili home after the contractor reported the case and obtained a P3 form.

The contractor, a popular local musician, accused Barasa of causing him grievous bodily harm during the incident that was captured on video and went viral.

The lawmaker was seen in a video that went viral on social media arguing with and slapping an individual who turned out to be a contractor named Stephen Masinde.

Masinde had locked up the classrooms the MP went to open officially, in an event attended by residents of Kamukuywa Ward in Kimilili constituency and refused to hand over the keys until he is paid.

According to Masinde, the MP approached him with a proposal that would see him and his partner renovate the classrooms within a short time and were promised payment within three weeks.

Masinde alleged the MP owed them a total of Sh3.4 million but had shown no intentions of paying for the work they did as he stopped answering his calls or rudely replied to his texts.

Barasa, in his defence, said the contractor needed to be patient as his payment was being processed.

After the incident, Masinde went to Kimilili Police Station and reported the case and the lawmaker is expected to face charges over the incident.
