A Nairobi court on Monday issued a gag order barring all media houses from covering a child upkeep case filed against Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

Nairobi Resident Magistrate Festus Terer issued the gag orders following an application by complainant Irene Naswa Mutaki’s lawyer Dunstan Omari.

The order gags any print or electronic media in Kenya from accessing, publishing, airing, narrating or commenting in writing or debating the case filed by a woman against the Speaker.

“That a gag order is hereby issued to any print or electronic mass media in Kenya from accessing, publishing, airing, narrating or commenting the case in any newspaper, journal, weekly magazine and TV or radio show,” states the order.

The case is coming up on Wednesday to verify if indeed the two parties in the case have come to a mutual out-of-court agreement.

Naswa sued Lusaka for Sh2.5 million over the support of their unborn child claiming he refused to fulfil his fatherly obligations.

Lusaka did not challenge the paternity of the unborn child and through his lawyer Peter Wanyama sought an out-of-court settlement.
