Deputy President William Ruto has sent a consolatory message to Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua.

Ruto was empathizing with Rigathi following his arrest on Friday, July 23, 2021.

The DP took to his Twitter handle to share his message with his friend Rigathi.

He said Rigathi’s arrest was persecution on account of their friendship and political beliefs.

“My bro Gachagua, I know you are strong because we knew this politically instigated trumped up charges were coming. This persecution on account of our friendship & political beliefs will come to an end. They have connections, networks, pedigree& godfathers BUT we have GOD our Father,” wrote Ruto.

Rigathi was arrested on July 23, 2021, by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Infestations (DCI) and taken to Nairobi DCI headquarters.

The MP has been under investigation for allegations of money laundering. According to the DCI, Rigathi is alleged to have used 42 companies to disburse Sh12 billion cumulatively.

He is still being held in Muthaiga police station as he awaits being arraigned in court on Monday.
