The number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 at Maranda High School has reached 11 following targeted testing at the learning institution in Siaya County. 

The new case was recorded after 10 cases were discovered from 28 samples collected during the targeted testing exercise conducted at Maranda on Wednesday.

According to Ministry of Health, the targeted tests were done by its officials after one student at the school was confirmed to have tested positive in the past weekend.

Siaya County Health Executive Dismus Wakla said the 11 who have contracted the Coronavirus includes students and members of staff at Maranda High School.

Siaya County Education Director, Joseph Wamocho, has assured parents the situation is under control and that the health ministry was working with the school to ensure all learners are safe.

Speaking at the school on Friday, Wamocho said three schools in Siaya county, including a primary school, confirmed one case each and those affected have already been isolated.
