The death toll from the Malanga tanker explosion has risen again after two more victims succumbed to their injuries.

The two died at the Siaya County and Referral Hospital on July 20, 2021, while receiving treatment.

Siaya County Governor Cornell Rasanga confirmed their deaths.

Their death brings the total number of casualties from the tragedy to 19.

According to Rasanga, 20 survivors are still receiving medical attention at the Siaya County Referral Hospital, 5 others are admitted at the Yala Sub-county hospital while one person is at the Inuka Community Hospital.

Rasanga said DNA analysis of the samples collected has already begun for the identification of the bodies that were burnt beyond recognition. He said the results will be out in a fortnight’s time.

The Siaya county boss also confirmed that the 5 patients admitted at Yala Sub-County Hospital have shown significant improvement and are now stable.

Rasanga was speaking at the Siaya District Referral Hospital where he had gone to visit the victims of the tragedy. 

He stated that the County Government of Siaya shall waive all the hospital bills for the survivors of the tragedy.
