The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has assumed control over investigations concerning an assault case against Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi.

This follows an assault charge filed by CEO Mercy Wambua accusing Havi of assault at the LSK offices.

A DCI officer said that they wanted to find out exactly what happened before a decision is made on the matter that they say bears serious claims.

Mercy reported the case at the Muthangari Police station on July 12, 2021, claiming she sustained injuries on her right arm and finger after a scuffle ensued at the LSK office.

She alleged Havi charged at her and shoved her, causing her the injuries after she had stormed into a meeting that she was not welcomed to attend.

Havi was arrested on Tuesday at his office in Westlands and taken to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning.

The LSK president and the CEO have not been seeing each other eye to eye over Havi’s allegations that Mercy was involved in the society's embezzlement of funds.

Havi sacked Mercy in October last year but his decision was overturned after 9 out of the 13 council members voted to reinstate Mercy.

The LSK President took to his Twitter account to affirm his position on the whole matter, claiming that Mercy was protecting two immediate former presidents from liability of embezzlement.

“Theft is theft! It is no less if committed by a woman. Mercy Wambua is shielding her principals, two immediate former Presidents of LSK from liability for plunder of hundreds of millions. Falsely shouting through paid journalists that ‘Nelson Havi assaulted me’ won’t help,” Havi tweeted.
