The murder trial of slain lawyer Willie Kimani will proceed until it is concluded under Justice Jessie Lesiit.

Lesiit was moved to Mombasa and was supposed to report to her new station on July 1, 2021.

Concerns have been growing that with transferring Lesiit, the case will be delayed further or re-tried.

It has been five long years for the families of the late human rights lawyer, his client Josephat Mwenda and a taxi driver Joseph Muiruri.

On that fateful day, the trio was headed to Mavoko Law courts for an assault case against a Syokimau based administrative police officer only for their decomposed bodied to turn up in a river in Ol Donyo Sabuk a week after their disappearance.

Lesiit confirmed that she had received formal orders from Chief Justice Martha Koome to conclude all her matters that are not complete including pending judgments via virtual means.

Willie's family has asked for the murder trial of their kin to be expedited even as the case dragged in court in the past two years.

The case has been dragging since the nomination of Justice Lesiit to the Court of Appeal in July 2019.

The lawyer, his client and the taxi driver were killed under unclear circumstances and 4 police officers suspected to have a hand in the murders were arrested and charged.

Willie’s widow, Hannah Wanjiku requested that Justice Lesiit finish the job.

Willie’s father at one point wondered the kind of case his son’s is and expressed his fear of dying before justice is served for his son.

The case was last heard on December 10, 2020.
