South Africa’s highest court has sentenced the former president of South Africa Jacob Zuma to 15 months in jail.

This comes after the Constitutional Court found him guilty of contempt of court for failing to appear before an inquiry investigating corruption during his tenure in office.

Zuma has so far made an appearance at the inquiry but has refused to make any further appearances.

The court has given Zuma 5 days to voluntarily present himself to the police, otherwise, his arrest warrant will be issued.

His tenure was marred with allegations of graft as business entities were accused of being in bed with some politicians who in turn influenced their interests.

Zuma's exit from power marked the beginning of his tribulation and he was also in court last month to take a plea in a separate corruption trial that involves a $5 billion arms deal.

He pleaded not guilty over the corrupt arms deal from the 1990s
