The Kenya government has extended the daily curfew meant to contain the spread of the Covid-19 by 60 more days amid a surge in infections across the country.

In a released gazette notice, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i indicated that the curfew will remain starting from 10pm and terminating at 4am effective from May 28, 2021.

The Public Order (State Curfew) Order, No. 3 of 2021 also bans public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of the curfew.

According to the notice by the CS, any exception must be through permission in writing from a police officer in charge of the police in a county or a police officer in charge of the police in a division/sub-county.

The only people exempted from the order are those offering essential services including police officers, health workers, security guards, licensed broadcasters among others.
