An alleged mobile phones fraudster said to have been using various online platforms to swindle unsuspecting members of the public of their hard-earned cash was arrested on Tuesday.

Ochokol Victor Maina, alias ‘Badman Anchor’, was arrested by police after countless complaints were lodged by members of the public who reportedly fell for his scam.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Victor posed as a high-end dealer of iPhone and other Apple products through several Instagram pages, including Netsol Apple Store and Backcell Apple Store.

Many members of the general public are reported to have lost unspecified money to the man's alleged mobile phone scams before he was finally arrested.

Victor was arraigned on May 26 to answer to charges of obtaining money by false pretenses in violation of section 313 of the penal code.

The DCI cautioned the general public from purchasing items from unverified traders and urged them to report any such criminal activities through their anonymous toll-free line.
