George Koimburi has been declared the winner of the just concluded Juja Parliamentary by-election.

Koimburi who ran for the Juja parliamentary seat by-election on a People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) received 12,159 votes trouncing his main contender Susan Njeri (Jubilee Party) who came in a distant second with 5,746 votes followed by Dr. Joseph Gichuhi at the dismal third position with 1,356 votes on an independent ticket.

The Juja Parliamentary seat was left vacant following the death of the then Juja MP Francis ‘Wakapee’ Waititu, after a long battle with brain cancer on February 22, 2021.

The results of the Juja Parliamentary by-election were delayed after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) suspended the tallying process at Mang’u High School Tallying center on account of disruption by some individuals.

According to the Chair IEBC Wafula Chebukati, the Juja by-election witnessed attempts to commit election malpractices in 4 polling stations.

“There were incidents in four polling stations where there was an attempt to interfere with the process, by the time the mayhem broke, the staff had finished tallying the votes and had filled and signed Form 35A,” said Chebukati.

Chebukati also said that after investigations are carried out, the commission will write to the Director of Public Prosecution’s office to seek prosecution of those found culpable of the election offenses.

The Juja by-election results are however being disputed by Jubilee's Susan Njeri.

Njeri who is the widow of the late MP 'Wakapee' flanked by Kiambu Members of Parliament Caucus Chairman Jude Njomo claimed that ballot papers marked in her favour were dumped in polling stations.

"This is so unfair. Ballot papers marked in my favour were dumped in polling stations and despite alerting the IEBC, they did nothing about it. All I want is fresh counting of the votes and I will accept defeat if all votes are counted fairly,"

She said that she will seek legal redress should the IEBC ignore her complaints
