President Uhuru Kenyatta has lifted the cessation order of movement into and out of the five counties previously declared as disease-infected areas.

The cessation order affected five counties, namely Nairobi County, Kajiado County, Kiambu County, Machakos County and Nakuru County.

Uhuru has also revised the curfew hours to start at 10 pm and end at 4 am with effect from midnight May 1, 2021.

The president said that in-person and congregational worship to resume countywide but capacity be a third of the normal capacity.

Restaurants and eateries owners breathe a sigh of relief after the president allowed them to reopen, albeit with strict adherence to Covid protocols issued by the Health ministry. However, bars will operate only until 7:00 pm.

President Uhuru said also said that the schools will reopen as per the Ministry of Education's calendar.

The cessation did not affect the other counties, and their curfew hours remained between 10:00 pm and 4:00 pm. 

President Uhuru gave the cessation order and revised curfew hours on 26th March 2021 amidst the surge of covid-19 infections within the 5 counties and fears of the spread of a new variant of the virus
