Wajir Governor Mohamed Mohamud has been impeached.

Mohamud was ousted on Tuesday afternoon by Wajir Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) over claims of abuse of office, gross misconduct and financial misdemeanor.

A total of 37 MCAs voted for the ouster motion, while only 10 voted to oppose his ejection.

Wajir County Assembly Speaker Ibrahim Yakub is set to officially communicate the MCAs’ decision to impeach Mohamud to Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka for consideration by Senators.

Once they receive the communication, Senators are then expected to decide whether to hear the charges against the county boss through a select committee or the entire House.

However, Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has denied the charges as contained in the motion impeaching him, instead blaming his political foes for pushing for his removal from office.
