Lawrence Njoroge Warunge, the young man who admitted to killing five family members in Kiambu in January, is set to answer to murder charges after being declared fit to stand trial.

A psychiatric report obtained from Mathari hospital indicated that the 22-year-old university student was mentally fit to stand trial in the multiple murder case.

During his arrest, Warunge admitted to police that he killed his mother, father, brother, a cousin as well as a farm hand and that his actions were inspired by tv series ‘Killing Eve’.

He had initially been declared unfit to stand trial by a Kiambu court in January when he was arraigned, a move that delayed his plea-taking to await a mental assessment report.

A police report had recorded that Warunge first killed help James Kinyanjui, metres from the main house then his mother Anne Wanjiku in the kitchen and his 12-year-old brother, who had cries from his mother and went to establish what the problem was.

He then descended on his father Nicholas Warunge, who had jumped from the balcony, then concluded his murderous mission with his cousin, who had hidden under the bed.

Warunge was nabbed by DCI slauths 3 days later after fleeing the scene together with his girlfriend immediately after executing the killings that he had planned after long-standing sour relations with his parents.

His girlfriend Sarah Muthoni, who was treated as a suspect initially, was later in January set free and converted into a state witness in the murder case.
