Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana on Wednesday gave a hint that he might be ready to work with ODM party leader Raila Odinga ahead of the 2022 General Election.

This comes after he held a consultative meeting with the Lower Eastern ODM party leadership on their invitation weeks after meeting Raila together with former UNCTAD boss Mukhisa Kituyi in Nairobi, with the details of their political discussion remaining scanty.

The Wednesday meeting with ODM county officials, according to Kibwana, discussed various issues, both local and national coming a day after Raila also met KANU chairman Gideon Moi and Muhoho Kenyatta, President Uhuru Kenyatta's influential brother in Nairobi.

The Makueni County boss, who is serving his last term and has expressed interest in the race to State House, said the two sides agreed to further the consultations in the spirit of "developing a pathway towards the realisation of reform politics."

Prof Kibwana praised the former Prime Minister for his pro-development approach to leadership adding that their thinking process and goals were aligned.

"ODM leader Raila Odinga and I are thinking in sync with the aim of taking Kenya forward. We want real change and create a country that is ready to stand for its people,” he said.

He also urged the ODM leadership to extend a hand to his Machakos and Kitui counterparts Alfred Mutua and Charity Ngilu respectively.

"Working together is not a hard task but I may ask that since I am working with many other people, I should sit down with them and discuss the move," added Prof Kibwana.

Political alliances have been shifting in the last few months as key political figures realign as they weigh the political temperatures as they position themselves ahead of the 2022 General Election, with Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) playing center stage in the games.
