President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched a Molecular Imaging Center at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) that will fully provide services to Kenyans suffering from Cancer.

Speaking during the event at KUTRRH in Kiambu County on Friday, the head of state said that the government has launched several initiatives specifically to address cancer care to help tackle the cancer menace in Kenya.

Similarly, the Ministry of Health has also proposed a nationwide lifestyle modification campaign to educate Kenyans.

Kenyatta has also reiterated that the ministry has launched a breast awareness campaign that seeks to encourage people to go for screening.

Breast Cancer is the most diagnosed form of cancer with an annual rate of incidences of 6000 fresh cases and 2500 related death every year.

To counter this, President Kenyatta said his government has established 10 fully functional chemotherapy centres in counties to ensure that treatment is available in remote areas.

Kenyatta has also revealed that the government had disseminated national cancer screening guidelines to counties to encourage screening and provide cervical screening services.

He has therefore urged all eligible women to take advantage of the health care facilities.

''We have also developed the national cancer screening guidelines to counties and we continue to encourage screening and provide annual cervical screening services. I urge all eligible women to take advantage of the health care facilities,'' president Kenyatta.

Uhuru has congratulated the KUTTRH for the immense contribution that the centre has done to transform the health system.

As a country, the president promised to focus on the reduction of cancer cases and enhancing the survival rate.
