Kenya is currently experiencing a more lethal third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, according to information released on Wednesday by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe. 

Kagwe revealed that the country had confirmed 713 new Coronavirus cases out of 5,230 samples tested in the last 24 hours, the highest overnight infection confirmations this year.

The total confirmed positive virus cases in the country cumulatively now stands at 110,356, while recoveries rose to 87,903 after 167 more patients recovered from the deadly virus.

The CS also announced that 12 more patients had succumbed to the deadly virus during the same period raising the total Covid-19 fatalities in the country to 1,898.

The Ministry of Health has also revealed that currently 563 patients are admitted at various health facilities across the country, with 1,588 other patients under the home-based care.

According to Kagwe, 90 virus patients remain in ICU; 28 on supplementary oxygen.

He said the government plant to inoculate 15 million Kenyans by June 2023 for the country to achieve herd immunity, assuring Kenyans of the safety of the Oxford-Astrazeneca jab.
