A total of 80 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya raising cumulative cases to 95,923 in the last 24 hours after 1,601 samples were tested. 

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 425 patients had recovered from the disease during the same period bringing up the total recoveries in Kenya to 77,423.

According to Kagwe, out of the recoveries, 369 were under home-based care while 56 have been discharged from various hospitals across the country.

Sadly, three Coronavirus patients succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours increasing Kenya’s cumulative deaths owing to the disease to 1,658.

63 of the cases reported on Sunday are Kenyans and 17 foreigners, and the youngest patient is a three-year-old infant while the oldest is aged 98, said the CS in a statement.

Kagwe said a total of 38 patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 18 on ventilatory support and 17 others on supplementary oxygen, even as three others are being observed.

He added that 33 Covid-19 patients were on supplemental oxygen; 26 in the general wards and seven in the High Dependency Units.

Nairobi County still recorded the highest number of new virus cases with 55, Busia followed with 7, Lamu 5, Kiambu 4, as Murang’a and Kilifi recorded 3 and 2 cases each respectively. 

Kenya has continued to confirm new cases since the first case was reported on March 13 amid fears the numbers could surge as Kenyans throw caution to the wind to celebrate Christmas.

The country had tested a total of 1,033,322 people by Sunday, according to MOH.
