Schools across Kenya are set to reopen on October 12 albeit in phases.

Education of Education said on Tuesday that students in Grade 4, Class 8 and Four 4 will be the first ones to resume classes from Monday next week.

The announcement by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha came after schools were shut in March when the first case of Covid-19 was reported in the country.

In a statement, Prof Magoha announced the said students would commence their second term on Monday and terminate on December 11.

According to the CS, the school holiday will run from December 24 to January 1, 2021 with the third school term expected to commence on January 4 and terminate on March 13.

Students will sit their national examinations in March 2021, with KPCE set to start on March 22 and end on March 24, while KCSE candidates will start on March 25 and terminate on April 4.

The move to reopen schools also comes as many parents in Kenya are raising concern over how secure their children will be in classes as many parents also grapple with losses of income and jobs due to the pandemic meaning many will not afford to pay fees.
