Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has revealed that she made her first Sh1 million on a side hustle at the age of 19 while she was a student at the University of Nairobi (UoN).

Omanga made the revelation on Monday during an interview with comedian MC Jesse on his Jessy Junction Youtube channel, saying she sold bedsheets in Nairobi as a side hustle.

“I started a business while at UoN. I would go to Eastleigh, buy some merchandise then sell to my fellow students at the facility. That is how I made my first million and bought a car,” she said.

The Jubilee nominated senator said that through a tender she got from a hotel in Eldoret to supply bedsheets, she was able to make the cash and boost her earnings in the business.

Omanga added that she had to get a loan from a bank to be able to meet the tender requirements and after supplying the bedsheets, the hotel paid her her first Sh1 million.

“By 20 I bought a new car and I was still in the university. I would use a portion of my school fees to buy a few things in Eastleigh that I would later sell at a profit. By exam time I had made profits and I would use that to clear my fees,” she said excitedly.

She is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and has landed in trouble with her party on several occasions for campaigning for his 2022 presidential bid and  "Hustler Nation" agenda against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advice.
