The Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has issued a directive banning the hiring of school buses for private events.

Magoha said that those seeking the services of school buses must first get authority from the ministry.

“We will not sit and allow people to misuse facilities of our children, We will give authorisation from Jogoo House,” Magoha said.

Magoha made the announcement on Tuesday at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development during an event where he released the result for the 2020 Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) selection.

The CS said he will not sit back and watch as buses meant for children are being misused meanwhile exposing children and teachers to the risk of contracting Covid-19.

Magoha warned that action will be taken against anyone who violated the directive. Members of the public often hire school buses to ferry them to such events as funerals, weddings, political gathering at reduced fees compared to public service vehicles.
